Foyer Health Celebration Event 2009 Photographs
Here are a few snaps from this year's Foyer Health Celebration Event, held in Birmingham on 31st March 2009.
It was a smoothie soiree as the young people experimented with all different flavors of this fruity and refreshing treat!
The day was a great success attended by around 100 Foyer staff and residents involved in the Foyer Health Programme. The event was all about celebrating the success and highlights of the Foyer Health programme and demonstrating the unique work of Foyers.
Residents Jess Lawrence, Darren Hobden and Ben Munnrey kicked off the event by sharing their experiences of setting up their Breakfast and Sandwich Club at Brighton and Hove Foyer
Keynote Speaker Paul Hooper, Regional Tobacco Policy Manager for the Department of Health addressed how Foyer staff and residents can explore alternatives to smoking and how we can all engage in healthy lifestyles
Over the course of the day Foyer staff and residents shared information and experiences of their Health programmes, other highlights included:
-Foyer staff and residents had an opportunity to practice some Tai Chi and to understand the benefits with Jon Price from the Rising Dragon Tai Chi School
- A British Military Fitness session helped to get the blood pumping for young people as they participated in the exercises
- NEF explored the Foyer Health slogan Take a positive step for your well-being and examined what people really mean when they talk about well-being
- Crewe YMCA Foyer, Exeter Foyer, Salford Foyer and West London YMCA all shared their highlights and lessons learnt from year one of the programme
Residents relaxed between information sessions and smoothie making as the day came to an end

Cars and Cakes make money for Comic Relief
Swindon Foyer residents raised a staggering £162,38 for Comic Relief in March 2009!
Hamud Saleban, Alex Rigley (to the right of photo here), Chantal McAdam, Shinette Woodward and Anwar Chema (to the left of photo here) washed and vacuumed cars all day for Jephson Housing Association staff and their Swindon Office raising £91,10.
Lucy Morgan, Leroy Allen, Callum Stone, Andrew Wilson, Robbie Ruddock, Christina Taylor, Kaylie Fitchett, Katie Ettenfield and Bryn Harding baked and sold cakes outside the Foyer to passers by raising a furher £71,28.
